E PLURIBUS UNUM (OUT OF MANY, ONE)
Ok so from early on I thought 1800s were cool, I grew up watching the 2 on the right drive around my neighborhood, I watched the Saint when it was on the air. The guy down the street owned those 2 for as long as I could remember so when he passed on and his son put them up for grabs on the SCVCOA list I grabbed them, sadly the plate had been switched and the one I have paperwork on is the red one on the right, just a little too much work there for me. My next thought was to file a lost pink slip form and get the white one registered. Sadly it has been crunched several times, (Joe was a speedy driver that drove up to his mid 80s) and the front driver's side and rear passenger's side have over 1/2" of bondo on them and serious rust underneath. I thought I would do a MIG weld cut and paste but my friend came to my rescue.
The one on the left is a complete rolling shell with a good interior, with the exception of a small spot behind the front right wheel and the radiator support the little thing is rust free!!! Over the next few months I'll be transfering the engine and trans out of the white one into it and getting it registered. Then I'll be stripping it for a complete restoration. Total cost so far. . . . $500, somehow I think that will rise rapidly.
Pics of the rust that needs repair, it looks bad, luckly however I got a good deal on a radiator support from mother Volvo and the parts car has good front sections to cut/weld in. These sections aren't really structural but they do hold the sway bar and are all that holds the bumpers. Probably should make these as strong as possible. The nice this is, with the exception of a bit of rust on the passenger's side rocker thanks to a leaky antenna this is the only rust on the whole car!!
